Sound Test Order (Sonic 3)
« on: December 03, 2005, 03:15:01 pm »
I was sitting there, listening to the sound test of Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) in sequence. The songs play in order chronologically (the order the zones appear in the game, starting with Angel Island 1), something I knew.

But why is it that the zone Flying Battery got misplaced back as zone 5 (rather than the ingame order's designation as zone 8)? Could be a glitch, but I think this may mean (40% sure) that Flying Battery may have been a former Sonic 3 zone that got switched to Sonic and Knuckles. Here is the total order the sound test puts the zones:

Angel Island 1 + 2
Hydrocity 1 + 2
Marble Garden 1 + 2
Carnival Night 1 + 2
Flying Battery 1 + 2
Ice Cap 1 + 2
Launch Base 1 + 2
Mushroom Hill 1 + 2
Sandopolis 1 + 2
Lava Reef 1 + 2 ("2" also being Hidden Palace)
Sky Sanctuary
Death Egg 1 + 2
Mini-Boss
Robotnik
Doomsday

Any explanation for FB's misplacement?

yep ... flying battery was yanked from sonic 3 at the last minute. mcdonald's had sonic 3 toys and so on for the release of sonic 3 in the us, and on the happy meal bag was a reference to flying battery. needless to say, i was a very confused child, and nearly resorted to importing a japanese mega drive and sonic 3 cart to play the flying battery zone i was sure was in that version ("the dirty bastards removed it to spite us for nuking them!!" or something, you know).

This is the order that the S3 level select puts the games.

And even better, if you play S3&K, get up to Flying Battery and quit, then take Sonic 3 separately and play it, you'll see Flying Battery on the level select... but it says "Zone 5" above it.

Really? I should try that. :o

It does that even though the S3 saves and the S3K saves are separate? (Or is it different on non-American versions, in which case I shouldn't bother?)
